National Ride2School Day is Australia's largest celebration of walking and riding to school. Don't miss any of the action on Wednesday 16 March 2011. National Ride2School day aims to raise awareness of the health, economic and environmental reasons for encouraging children to have an active commute to school.
National Ride2School Day is a chance for brand new riders to experience riding and walking to school for the first time. They might find that it is quicker, more interesting and lots of fun to walk and ride to school!
On this day walking and riding is normal and the entire school community gets behind it. It is a chance to celebrate walking and riding on a large scale and to prove it can be done. After showing it’s achievable on this day students are encouraged to keep the momentum going throughout the year.
There are many benefits to participating in National Ride2School Day including:
- Children feel fresh and more alert at the beginning of the school day.
- There are fewer cars on the road, reducing congestion and greenhouse gases.
- Children can work towards completing the recommended ‘60 minutes of moderate activity each day’ on the way to and from school.
- Children feel happier, are healthier and perform better at school.
- Easing the family budget
